Wore my courage on my wrist
so I wouldn't lose it
but seeing your face,
I felt it loosen
the string burst,
red bracelet all but pieces
its color splashed on my cheeks
a sudden warmth -
splash became a wave
I giggle, force released
the red mixed unknown shades
it rose up to stories high
fell away, tore at the barrage
ripped at its stones
washing away my courage...
to speak...
The beads rain to the floor
lightly clicking
turned away to pick them up
behind me, there you are
helping me gather the pieces
got my courage back
no longer in a band
but wound around me
twisting chains
connecting to your hand
